Bio

Hello, and welcome! I am a professional writer and editor in Houston, Texas. Reading and writing have been the center of my existence since I was a kid. It really took center stage when a horror story I wrote got published in my middle school's literary magazine. I knew I wanted to earn countless bylines thereafter.

EXPERIENCE IS BLISS

 My first official writing job was for a bowling-themed newspaper called Ten Pin News in Pasadena, Texas, circa 2004. I graduated from the University of Houston-Clear Lake in 2007 with a BA in Communication. I served as newspaper editor there for two terms, and I am responsible for the paper's name change from The UHCLIDIAN to The Signal (2007). Since then, my titles have included reporter, freelance writer and editor, essayist, memoirist, public affairs specialist, communication specialist, technical editor, academic advisor, and currently, internal communications coordinator and photographer for a community college's public relations and marketing department. I'm currently working on an MFA in creative writing.

I have been a freelance resume writer since 1999. I also help clients edit letters, mass communication, web content, promotional material, bios, books, and more. I write fiction as Neesha Niaz, and I am a volunteer slush-pile editor for a flash fiction e-zine - 101Words.org. 

INSIDE SCOOP

I was born in Trinidad & Tobago and raised in Houston, Texas, where I still call home with my husband, two sons, relatives, friends, and 850+ books. Yes, they are considered part of the family. Outside of the writing world, I am an avid reader, and I enjoy many genres including sci-fi, fantasy, horror, thrillers, biographies, and short stories. I also enjoy cooking, gaming, arts and crafts, decorating, stand-up comedy, documentaries, and NOT being outdoors.
